The FA's 'Respect' campaign

Set up by the FA in 2008, Respect is a campaign to ensure football is played in a fair, safe and enjoyable way for players, officials and supporters.

Above all, it is tackling abuse towards referees and trying to stamp out unacceptable behaviour from players and those on the sidelines.

This includes parents who put too much pressure on children to win and ruin the fun of playing football.

We all know there is poor behaviour at the highest level that our boys sometimes see on the TV. The FA knows this is a difficult area to tackle, but it remains valuable to make improvements at the grassroots level.

There has been a decline in the number of dissent cautions, assaults on referees and matches abandoned.

The majority of leagues - 70 per cent - are signed up to Respect. Hillside Rovers and the leagues we play in support the Respect campaign.

Practical ways we see Respect in action include shaking hands with opponents and the use of Respect pitch side barriers in matches, keeping spectators back from the touchline.
