Secretary’s Report AGM 23 April 2007

The Club has had a successful year with over 90 children registered with Club. The main purpose of the Football Foundation Grant was to stimulate the U6 intake. A taster session was held in September run by NCFA and FITC coaches. This really kick started the U6s and we have approximately 20 registered. Three of the coaches, John Bagley, James Marten and Colin Grayley have attended their Level 1 course in March. We were also fortunate to have Katrina Carman who came to Hillside Rovers already with the Level 1 qualification . Katrina was able to lead the year group for until the other coaches were qualified. We have been very grateful for her contribution and hope that she will want to do the same next year. There has been plenty of parental help form this year group not only with the coaching but with ideas for fundraising.  The U7s has a slow season as the Under 6s but now have increased the number of players in their group to approximately 15. This is a credit to Eliot Barker and Duncan Crouch who have been the bedrock of this year group. The U8s have run two teams this year in the friendly league which on top of providing training for those children has proved to be quite onerous. For the coming season it is planned that only one team will be entered into the League. The U9s have had a successful year and were knocked out in the semi-final of the cup. David Muff and Simon Sheppard have successfully increased the competitiveness of their team this season. The U10s have struggled to win games this season but have persevered under the direction of Dean Knights and Richard Green. Dean and Richard have sufficient players to move up to St Andrews next Season. This achievement deserves great credit and will make up for the disappointment last season when the U10s folded.

We have receive income of £1170 from the Football Foundation in the first year of a three year grant . We have spent the money on a contribution to the School for grounds maintenance costs, the NCFA taster session, the Soccer Parent workshop and numerous Level Coaches courses. We have more money to come in year 2 to help further develop the club and to target the next intake of u6s.  We are well on the way to our target of raising funds for a new hut. More details will follow from the Treasurer.

Future developments also include a website which will enable us to communicate with parents more effectively and allow us to obtain feedback more easily from a greater number of parents. Simon Greaves is leading this project and is looking for to form a small working group to move this project forward. The Club will also be issuing a questionnaire on a range of subjects such as the level of subs, team selection policy; we hope that as many parents as possible give us their views.

The Soccer Parent Workshop and follow up Parent’s meetings were both successful. Over 50 parents have taken part on one or both of these days. The club will move forward by involving the parents more and becoming more democratic. There more people that are involved means that the less any individual has to do. The coaches would love to see more parents taking on the non coaching roles and become part of the committee. As a Charter Standard Club the coaches have also benefited from attending in service training sessions run NCFA. As coaches develop their skills the benefit is passed on to the children.

I am standing down as Secretary as my work/life balance has changed significantly in recent months and I no longer have the time to give the role of Secretary that it deserves. The Secretary is the communication point for the club but some of the other responsibilities could be delegated to another committee member. I recommend that the position of Registration Secretary is established to reduce the workload of the Secretary.  I thank the committee for their support during my term of office.
