Football Funday - Update
Published date - Sun 13/05/07
This year's Family Funday at Hillside Rovers was a huge success.
Showcased as the year's "must not miss" event in the Hillside Rover's calendar, this year didn't disappoint, with a fantastic turnout in spite of the weather trying it's best but failing to spoil our party,.
Richard was his usual enigmatic self on the mic, the bouncy castle was a huge hit and the tombola sold out in record time.
This year also the sweet stall was a success and as ever the BBQ hit the spot with hungry parents and children alike, and the website marquee was well supported. "Soak the coaches" was extremely popular also and for some reason this year appeared to last forever!
"The weather held, the BBQ smelt
fantastic and a great time was had by all."
The annual "presentation of trophies" took place to all the children and was well supported. Every child received a trophy, a team photo and a round of applause from all of their team-mates and parents for their hard work this year. "Best Player", "Best Newcomer" and "Player's Player" awards were also presented in the year groups.
Well done to all of the children who received a trophy, thank you for your hard work and for playing for Hillside Rovers this season.
The annual "Parents v Coaches" match was a hard fought battle. Eddie Jack took a nasty stud injury in the second half and had to be shielded by team mates to spare his blushes whilst the magic spray was applied. Deep into the second half the coach's attack launched a flying header from a corner, missed and demolished the goal however the match ended in a 2-2 draw, despite the fact that the parents appeared to play the entire second half with twelve players.
Parent's Captain:
"I'm slightly disappointed to not win this year,
considering our second half superiority"
Coach's Captain:
"We could have won it this year, but they really
raised their game after the break, for some reason"
David Cox, Ref and Club Treasurer ( responsible for adding up! ):
"Doh!"
Overall, we raised over £700 !!! towards the New Hut.
" There was a great atmosphere on the day with everyone pulling together to make it such a success – just what Hillside Rovers is all about I guess. Everyone mucked in and helped and it was a real team effort. A number of people that I spoke to have commented what a great day it was – credit to everyone! "
Many many thanks indeed to everyone who helped with the running of the day and many many thanks indeed to everyone who contributed to the money raised.
