Safety announcement for parents driving in convoy
Published date - Mon 17/09/07
Ever gotten lost in a parents' convoy on the way to an away fixture because someone was driving too fast. or you thought you'd be smart and take the short cut and try to be the first to arrive.
It's a tad embarrasing isn't it and quite stressful for the children too, especially if you haven't got the coach's mobile number and you have to phone your partner and they're doing the weekly supermarket run and there's no reception and they have to dash home to try to find a recent newsletter which has somebody's mobile number on it which is in a kitchen drawer somewhere, whilst you're trying to steer the car and use the mobile on hands-free whilst trying to stop the Tom-Tom from beeping.
Recipie for disaster...
Fact - Relatively speaking, more accidents happen when driving in convoy than when driving alone.
Fact - People who are not used to driving in convoy are three times as likely to speed.
Fact - If you are not comfortable with your route, you are more likely to have an accident.
As an FA Charter Standard club Hillside Rovers encourage all parents who are driving in convoy, to digest the information on this page and ensure that you act responsibly when driving to an away fixture.
Also, can we ask that all parents understand their route to their away fixture and not leave it to their coach to give directions at the last moment. You'll find links to all the maps below.
We will not divulge personal information such as mobile phone numbers or addresses on this web site (it is world-wide you know), so we would encourage all parents to have the mobile phone numbers of their child's coach in their phones, should the worst happen and you do get lost.
Please remember, we are potentially liable for a fine from the FA should we not be able to honour our fixtures with other clubs.
